Jamie McElroy, Program Director, has worked with Los Ayudantes for just under a year. He has taught high school journalism, coordinated preschool, elementary and junior high age educational programs, and developed curricula for elementary and junior high age children, as well as adult learners. Currently, he also works as the Coordinator of Children, Youth & Young Adult Ministries at St. Bede's Episcopal Church, Menlo Park, Ca., where he has served for over three years. He has a B.A. in English language and literature from Yale University and a Masters of Divinity from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, Ca. Jamie also has a background as a non-fiction writer, having published work as a staff reporter for a newspaper, a freelance writer for magazines, and a book author (We've Got Spirit, 1999, Simon & Schuster). Anyone interested in joining the Los Ayudantes team of tutors should contact Jamie at jmcelroy.losayudantes@gmail.com.

Jamie says: "As someone who loves writing--despite how hard it is--I find it thrilling to see our kids get past their fears and self-doubt to discover the joy that comes from putting a thought clearly down on paper. And as someone who loves books and believes that books are one of the great tools by which we figure out how to know and live with ourselves, I find it extremely rewarding to be a part of these kids' engagement with good books."
