Currently, we offer three different types of program--
Book Club,
Drama Club and
Poetry Club--each intended to help produce the same ultimate outcome for our students: stronger English language skills.
In all of our programs, students are required to read aloud, to write analytically and creatively, and to talk with their fellow students about what they've read and written.
Drawing on the rich breadth of teaching and literary experience of
our tutors and
board members, we carefully choose novels, narrative non-fiction, plays and poems that appeal to
our students' imaginations and suit their particular skill levels.
We also strive to keep our work with our students fun and engaging by making the texts we read come to life. We show our Drama Club students how to physically embody a theatrical scene with costumes and props; we show Book Club students reading a novel set during the Gold Rush how to mine for gold by splitting open geode-filled rocks; and we show our Poetry Club students how to layout and publish their own poems, complete with personalized illustrations and photos.
In all that we do in all of our programs, we strive to empower our students to feel confident and happy as they read, write and speak English.
